NEET-UG 2026 paper leak: exam cancelled, re-test held

NEET-UG 2026 was held on 3 May 2026. After a large-scale paper leak probe, NTA cancelled that exam. Re-examination was held on 21 June 2026. Results were declared on 16 July 2026. CBI probe and arrests followed.

Over 20 lakh students sat the May 3 exam. Then the system admitted what students already knew: the paper could not stand.

Investigations traced guess papers and insider access that matched large parts of the real paper, especially Chemistry and Biology. NTA cancelled the May 3 exam with government approval. CBI took over the probe. Arrests included people linked to the testing process.

In July 2026, CBI told a Delhi court that 111 of 136 handwritten chemistry questions recovered from a Latur coaching owner's phone matched NTA master sets. The agency alleged about Rs 5 lakh was paid to procure leaked chemistry questions from an NTA panel paper-setter. CBI also told courts it did not find institutional bribery inside NTA as an organisation, while flagging gross negligence and a multi-state leak network.

The re-exam ran on 21 June 2026 under heavier security. Results came on 16 July 2026. That timeline does not erase the damage: stress, wasted months, and another year of broken trust after the 2024 leak fight.
