Kuldeep Sengar: Unnao rape, life sentence on record
Former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was convicted and given life imprisonment for the rape of a minor in Unnao. The survivor fought through FIR denial, family deaths, and national outrage. Sentence suspension fights continue in higher courts. This is one of the clearest court-documented rape cases involving a BJP legislator.

A court convicted Sengar of rape and sentenced him to life. Separately he faced conviction linked to the custodial death of the survivor's father. That is not street talk. That is judgment. In 2025-26 the Supreme Court set aside a Delhi High Court order that had suspended his life sentence and sent the matter back for fresh hearing, keeping the convict-status fight alive without erasing the trial conviction on record.
