E20 ethanol blending: forced blend, mileage hit, Gadkari must answer
Petrol with 20% ethanol (E20) is the default pump fuel. Govt cites oil savings and farmers. Motorists report harder starts, mileage drop, and corrosion. July 2026: E20 Janta Party demands Gadkari resign; Gaadi March set for 31 July.
E20 is not a small lab tweak. It changes what millions of vehicles burn every day. ARAI controlled tests with OEMs reported about a 2-6% drop in fuel efficiency vs E10 because ethanol has lower energy. Petroleum ministry talk has cited roughly 3-5% in some cases. That is not 'your imagination'. That is less kilometre per litre for every commute.
Drivers report fuel-system damage, starting trouble, rusting parts, and warranty fights. Gadkari calls damage talk overblown / false narrative and asks critics to show one damaged car. The petroleum ministry says widespread verified engine failures are not documented. That gap between office reassurance and a scooty that will not start is why citizens are done whispering.
Choice is the second crime. Ethanol-free 100-octane premium exists at select pumps at luxury prices while E20 is the standard. TOI coverage of E20 Janta Party: people are not begging for free fuel. They want the freedom to buy 100% petrol, honest labelling, and independent data. Forcing a blend without a real affordable alternative is policy violence dressed as green progress.
Conflict cloud: Gadkari is the loudest ethanol champion while facing conflict-of-interest questions over family links to ethanol production. He says the family share is tiny (statements around 0.07% / under 0.5%). Tiny or not, the minister pushing the blend must face resignation pressure when citizens pay the mileage tax.
July 2026 street turn: after CJP forced Pradhan out, E20 Janta Party demands Gadkari resign. Team Bharat calls a peaceful Gaadi March, Gandhi March in Delhi on 31 July past Gadkari and Puri. Trishola line: Nitin Gadkari must resign. Publish the full E20 papers. Restore affordable non-blend choice. Until then, treat every 'false narrative' speech as gaslighting.
Water is the third fight. Viral posts claim 10,000 litres of water per litre of ethanol. Government says modern distilleries use about 3-5 litres of processed water per litre with recycling. Crop irrigation ('virtual water') for sugarcane / rice feedstock can still be huge in water-stressed districts. Food-to-fuel while taps run dry is not a slogan. It is a policy choice.
What is proven here
Proof level: official E20 rollout + ARAI efficiency loss + minister mileage admissions + motorist complaint record + government rebuttals + July 2026 resignation / march coverage. Benefits and engine-damage scale remain contested. Resignation demand is civic, not a court conviction.
