Central Vista rebuild: grandeur vs public need
The Central Vista project rebuilt India's power corridor at massive public cost while courts and critics asked whether the timing and spend matched public need.
Governments love monuments. Citizens pay the bill. Central Vista became a fight over priorities: new parliament aesthetics versus hospitals, schools, and crisis spending.
Courts allowed the project to proceed after hearings. That is not the same as a popular mandate that the spend was wise. Transparency of contracts and opportunity cost remain fair questions.
