Brij Bhushan Singh: wrestlers' sexual harassment case

Former BJP MP and Wrestling Federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh faces charges of sexual harassment and outraging modesty of women wrestlers. Delhi Police chargesheeted him. Court framed charges. Trial finished; judgment reserved. He denies guilt. This is one of the most documented recent power-and-sexual-abuse fights in Indian sport.

Olympic and world-level women wrestlers sat on the streets of Delhi for months in 2023. Their demand was simple and hard: FIR and justice against Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, then a BJP MP. They alleged sexual harassment and worse. Police delayed. Supreme Court pressure came. The country watched athletes beg for an FIR.

June 2023: Delhi Police filed a chargesheet under IPC sections on sexual harassment, assault to outrage modesty, stalking, and intimidation. May 2024: a Delhi court said there was sufficient material and framed charges for five wrestlers. Singh pleaded not guilty. BJP did not give him a 2024 ticket and fielded his son instead. That is politics managing optics, not a court verdict.

By mid-2026 the trial was complete and judgment reserved for pronouncement. Until the judgment, treat him as an accused facing trial, not a convict. The wrestlers' courage is already part of public record. Power that makes medal winners sit on a footpath for a FIR is the corruption of dignity.

What is proven here

Proof level: probe-ongoing / charges framed. Police chargesheet and court charge-framing are documented. Not a finished conviction until judgment. Do not write 'convicted rapist' before the court does.
