Rani Lakshmibai

Queen of Jhansi. Fought the East India Company in 1857. Died in battle. Became a permanent symbol of resistance.

Lakshmibai's war was of her century. The lesson that survives: when power annexes dignity, resistance can come from unexpected leaders.
