Anna Hazare

Social activist whose hunger strikes and campaigns pushed Right to Information in Maharashtra and the 2011 India Against Corruption movement for a stronger Lokpal.

Hazare used satyagraha-style pressure for transparency laws and against corrupt officials. The 2011 movement put anti-corruption on every TV screen in India.

Critics argue about politics around the movement. The public fact remains: millions learned the word Lokpal because people refused to stay quiet.

Why on this wall

Made anti-corruption a mass street language in modern India.
